Mount Nittany is the common name for Nittany Mountain, a prominent geographic feature in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. The mountain is part of a ridge that separates Nittany Valley from Penns Valley, with the enclosed Sugar Valley between them.
But did you know:
The land that makes up Mount Nittany was purchased in the 1940s to save it from being sold to a lumber company. After years of work, the Mount Nittany Conservancy was set up in 1981 to continue the efforts of preserving the area, which now extends to over 800 acres.
Today, Mount Nittany is a popular hiking destination close to State College and some amazing vistas overlooking the valley, Happy Valley that is. The mountain is crisscrossed by roughly 7.5 miles of trails, which offer a variety of hiking options depending on how much time you have. There are 7 overlooks long those trails and the known as the Mike Lynch Overlook, is the most impressive. From Mike's vantage point, you have a commanding view over State College and the Penn State Campus. The most noticeable feature being Beaver Stadium, the third-largest stadium in the world.
